What To Choose For A Christmas Tree Topper
Getting ready for Christmas is still one of the most elaborate and sometimes difficult task of the year. There are just so many choices and themes to choose from. Most importantly, you need a Christmas tree. Then maybe a nativity scene for your home. Then some outdoor and indoor Christmas lights to decorate with. Then, of course, we can’t forget the Christmas gifts!
Then there is all the preparation and time involved in sending out holiday cards to family and friends, and preparing a sumptuous holiday meal. All these things are very important, but to me the most important part is the decoration that, both literally and symbolically, sits above everything else – the Christmas tree topper.
A lot of families have a Christmas tree topper that they use every year, maybe one that’s been handed down through the generations, but then other people like to vary it each year.
The two most popular choices are a Christmas tree angel, and a Christmas star. Both are great choices and there are so many variations of both nowadays, something to suit all kinds of preferences. Personally I love the old fashioned looking angels with the porcelain faces, but then I’ve always been attracted to the heirloom kind of Christmas decorations.
Then there’s other people that like to go a little bit more outlandish with their Christmas tree topper. I’ve even heard of people putting a camels that the wise men were riding at the top of the tree, or even an ornamental turkey. Why stop there! Other options might be an elf, snowflake, stocking, reindeer, candy cane, miniature present, snowman, or even Santa. It all comes down to personal taste and the effect you want to achieve, be it traditional or something very different!
Most people have much more conventional tastes – Usually, an angel ornament or a Christmas star looks best at the top of a tree, but it’s nice, though, to be able to mix it up once in a while.
So, once you have decided on a kind of tree to decorate, whether it is a real tree or artificial, then the next step is to choose what lights to put on it – be it clear, colored, or LED lights, again it all depends on what effect you are trying to achieve.
If you are pushed for time or are like me and really dislike stringing lights on a tree, then remember there is always the option of a prelit Christmas tree!
Once you have got the tree lit up with lights, then comes my favorite part, the adding of the decorations. What a special time, remembering fondly where they came from, or who made them, or who gave them to us – brings back so many great memories each year for me.
Now comes the final part, the placing of the tree topper. Once you have chosen which one you would like to use, then all you have to do is place it on top of the tree and stand back and admire all your hard work!
This is the completed tree. It is going in the shop, I really like it when it was finished, but I can’t keep everything! An old copper cookie cutter made a perfect angel tree topper! A copper tree cookie cutter and a stainless [...]
